From Pachyderm: Wichita school board candidates
From the Wichita Pachyderm Club this week: Candidates for the board of USD 259, the Wichita public school district. This was recorded October 4, 2019.
In board district 3, incumbent Ernestine Krehbiel is running unopposed, so this event did not include that district.
In board district 4, the candidates are James W. Kilpatrick, Jr. and Stan Reeser (incumbent).
For the at-large board district, which covers the entire school district, the candidates are Sheril Logan (incumbent) and Joseph Shepard.
Of note, the boundaries of the Wichita school district are not the same as the City of Wichita boundaries. Substantial parts of the city lie in other districts such as the Maize, Goddard, Andover, and Derby school districts, while the Wichita school district includes all or parts of Bel Aire, Kechi, and Park City.
Also, while candidates for a specific school board district must live within that district and represent that district, voters in the entire Wichita school district will see the candidates for all board districts on their ballot, and may vote in each contest.
The district offers this map.

The History of the Wyandotte Nation in Kansas and their Park City connection
From the Park City Chamber of Commerce.
Chief Billy W. Friend is Chief of the federally recognized Wyandotte Nation located in Oklahoma. He has 20+ years of diverse leadership and management experience in the Native American Community. Chief Friend has served the Wyandotte Nation in multiple capacities including as Director of Health Services, Director of Human Resources, Chief of Staff and Second Chief. He currently serves as the President of Wyandotte Gaming Enterprises and President of Wyandotte Technologies.
Under Chief Friend’s leadership, the Wyandotte Nation economically has grown to over 800 employees, with gross revenues of tribal enterprises producing over $100 million dollars, helping to fund and subsidize all tribal social service programs.
Many new programs have emerged for the Wyandotte people since his tenure as Chief began, including the youth summer intern program, allowing young tribal citizens to work and learn firsthand how the tribal organization operates and strives to improve the quality of life for those served, and the community at large. He established the first ever Tribal Town Hall meetings, held across the nation, as a way of connecting with the 5,000+ Wyandotte tribal citizens who live outside of Oklahoma, an effort to help them reconnect to their tribal heritage.
This was recorded at the Park City Chamber of Commerce meeting on September 26, 2019.

From the New Symposium Society: Capitalism and Socialism
The New Symposium Society held a public forum on the topic “Capitalism and Socialism” on the campus of Friends University on August 20, 2019. Audio from the event is below.
One participant remarked that the forum provided a format that led to a “remarkable exercise in polite public discussion that is unusual in these hyper-politically charged times.”
Another participant commented, “I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation with truly diversified, intelligent, polite participants.”
A special thank you is in order to New Symposium trustee Bob Love for his masterful job of acting as the informal “catalyst” in facilitating the meeting discussion. He artfully interjected nuanced intelligently designed dialogue from time-to-time to gently stimulate audience commentary and stay ahead of the discussion on both the capitalism and socialism sides of the discussion forum.
It was a “wow” meeting and we thank everyone who attended and participated in this successful forum!
We also thank Friends University for granting us the opportunity to host these informative meetings on their university campus!
Sincerely,
John Todd, one of several trustees for the New Symposium SocietyP.S. I would be remiss by not mentioning and thanking our trustee mentor Mike Witherspoon for his work in organizing the New Symposium Society forum presentations over the last five years or so all designed to create the opportunity for “civil discourse in the pursuit of truth.”
