Mr. Allison's role might be initially determined by where he sits at board meetings. In the past few years, the superintendent has been sitting with the school board members. I recall that all of the candidates for school board in 2007 were asked if they would have the superintendent sit with the board, or with district staff. All of the candidates said that the superintendent should sit with staff. I didn't see any published reports if this came up in the 2009 school board election earlier this year.

After the 2007 election the superintendent continued to sit with the board. Sometimes symbolism of seating is a good indicator of policy and who is actually setting it.

Excellent assessment. How refreshing it would me if Mr. Allison is reform minded and has the courage to be his own man.
