As Wink Hartman pointed out, all of this has been tried in the past without much success. I've heard millions has been thrown away.
What's that definition of insanity?
I'm all for downtown becoming a popular destination, and I think that the public momentum behind it will eventually make it happen. I like going Downtown.
My concern is that Government will step in, as they always do, as they have in fact, to take control and muck it all up.

Dare I ask the question as to why downtown is being developed at all? We must first consider why the core of Wichita was deserted in the first place; urban sprawl? Unless the free market is guiding downtown development it is all malinvestment that we will all be paying for in the future with our tax dollars!

Bob, this "design fallacy" is really interesting. I'm more than a little disgusted to know that the elitists who are behind all this think that we sheeple can be lead and influenced by such things as buildings or a river.

Using the multiplier effect to measure the results of public investment in downtown is like the Federal Government counting jobs saved to measure the positive impact of the Federal Stimulus money. It's just blowing smoke.

The private sector doesn't need the government to identify or manipulate "potential". The private sector can do that on its' own, thank you very much. What's that saying about putting lipstick on a pig...
