In australia Scalping has been effectively ended by the promotes who have introduced highly graded pricing for seats. For example today the George Michael Symphony Tour went on sale to members who had a 2 day advance on the general public. The tickets had 4 price points ranging from $130 for the cheap seats at the very top of the back of the stand up to $400 for the seats within 20m of the stage. The hard core fans can get their tickets at scalper prices straight from the promoter now.

While I don’t mind scalping, I do mind the inconsistent and, apparently, inaccurate descriptions of the ticket-purchasing process by arena personnel for at least one event. As a public agency, the ticket purchasing process (whatever method they chose) should be transparent and well-publicized and then officials should follow the method they have announced. After that, let the free market take over.

I agree with Bob on this issue. We don’t need more laws or enforcement. Owners of a structure usually don’t get to dictate the business practices of the lessee.

Just Wichita has the above the amount rule. You can go to Valley Center or any other town and buy them at the going rate, and only state law applies: Not over three times the value. Some southern states that have NASCAR races, allow their people to become business people and stimulate their local economy by buying box office only tickets for events. More power to them. If it feeds families and keeps them off welfare, let them have liberty.
